What is JTKSM?
Someone told you to go here, but your situation is about being dismissed.
JTKSM confuses workers, because it sounds close to the office that handles dismissal claims. It is not the same one.
What does JTKSM do?
JTKSM stands for Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Semenanjung Malaysia, the Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia. It enforces the Employment Act, covering unpaid salary, statutory notice pay and other basic entitlements.
It is a separate agency from JPPM, the Industrial Relations Department, which handles the fairness of a dismissal under the Industrial Relations Act.
Why does it matter to you?
Sending a complaint to the wrong office can waste your limited time. An unfair dismissal claim has a strict 60-day window that JTKSM does not process or extend.
If your dispute is about whether you were treated fairly when your job ended, it belongs with the Director General of Industrial Relations, not the Labour Department.
When should you go to JTKSM instead?
JTKSM fits disputes over money your employer owes under basic statutory rights, such as unpaid wages, unpaid overtime or notice pay that was never paid.
If your case is really about the reason you were let go, read about unfair dismissal and check your window on the deadline calculator. That clock runs whichever office you speak to first.
A claim can touch both agencies. If you want a lawyer to sort out which parts go where and act on them, send the date and what happened to an independent employment lawyer.
If you are unsure whether your dispute belongs with JTKSM or JPPM and want a lawyer to act, send the date and what happened. An independent employment lawyer can review whether it is a case they can take on.

Common questions
Should I file my dismissal claim with JTKSM?
Usually not. An unfair dismissal claim goes to the Director General of Industrial Relations under Section 20, not to the Labour Department. JTKSM is the right place for a separate dispute over unpaid wages or statutory entitlements.
Can I use both JTKSM and a dismissal claim?
In some cases, yes. If your employer also owes unpaid salary or benefits on top of a disputed dismissal, each issue can be pursued through its own channel at the same time.
