Perak’s workforce splits two ways. There is Ipoh’s services and retail core, and manufacturing sites scattered further out in the state.

Both feed into the same Section 20 process. JPPM can confirm which Industrial Court branch hears either one.

What a Perak dismissal often looks like

Workers in Ipoh town, many in retail, services and small trading businesses, more often face a show-cause letter first. It usually follows a specific incident.

Workers at manufacturing sites elsewhere in the state more often face retrenchment after a plant slowdown or closure.

Whichever pattern fits, the employer carries the burden of showing the dismissal was justified, not you.2

Ipoh’s limestone caves and old town heritage trade also support a small hospitality sector. Seasonal pressure there can lead to sudden exits.

Misconduct claims and the process behind them

A show-cause letter usually leads to a domestic inquiry. This is an internal hearing where your employer sets out the allegation and you respond.

Even after that hearing, the employer still has to satisfy the Industrial Court that the dismissal had just cause.

Keep a copy of the show-cause letter, your written reply and any inquiry notes. These form the core of your evidence.

A poorly run inquiry, where you were not properly heard, can itself support a later claim.

Common questions

I received a show-cause letter from my employer in Ipoh over a customer complaint. What should I do first?

Reply honestly and keep a copy of both the letter and your reply, since these become part of the record if the matter reaches a domestic inquiry. Your employer still has to prove the complaint justified dismissal, not the other way round.

A manufacturing plant outside Ipoh closed and I was let go with the rest of my line. Where is my case heard?

JPPM can confirm which Industrial Court branch hears a Perak case, whether the job was in the state capital or a factory further out in the state. The JPPM office for Perak handles conciliation before that stage.

My employer says I resigned, but I felt I had no choice after being moved to a worse role. Does that count?

It might, if the change went to the core of your job and you did not wait too long before leaving. That pattern is closer to a forced resignation than a voluntary one, and is worth setting out in detail.
