Dismissed in Selangor? Check your options
A Selangor employer ended your job and the reason feels incomplete.
Selangor’s retail and services belt runs through Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and the malls around them, and a growing tech workforce sits further out along the corridor. A dismissal in any of these settings is decided under the same national law.
Where is the claim heard?
A dismissed Selangor worker sends a written representation to the Director General of Industrial Relations within 60 days of dismissal1.
Conciliation follows. A case that does not settle there moves to the Industrial Court.
How do retail, services and tech endings differ?
Mall and retail staff around Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya sometimes meet a sudden ending dressed up as a resignation. Office and tech roles further along the corridor see more paperwork attached to the same outcome.
The ban on dismissing a pregnant employee applies across all these settings under the current Employment Act2.

Common questions
I work in a Subang Jaya mall and was let go shortly after announcing my pregnancy. Is that allowed?
No. Dismissing an employee because she is pregnant is specifically prohibited under the Employment Act amendments in force since January 2023. That protection applies to a Subang Jaya retail role as it does anywhere else.
My employer is based in Petaling Jaya but I work from home most days. Does that matter?
Your working arrangement does not change your status as an employee. What matters is where your employer is based and how your role was structured, and both point to the same Selangor process.
Where does a Selangor case get heard once conciliation fails?
Through the Industrial Court, and JPPM confirms which branch hears the case. A written representation can be prepared and lodged from anywhere in the state.
